🐠 Georgia Aquarium
📍 225 Baker St NW · ~15 min walk · Opens 9 AM · ✅ Membership — $0 admission
✅ GOING
✓World's largest aquarium. One of only 4 places on Earth with whale sharks. Beluga whales, manta rays, sea otters, 70,000+ animals. The Ocean Voyager tunnel is 11 million gallons around you — impressive at any age.
✓Perfect escape from Atlanta's June heat (90°F+). Air conditioned for 3–4 hours. Easy walk from hotel and right next to World of Coca-Cola.
✓Family Standard Membership purchased. Unlimited visits, $0 admission, 10% off tours, encounters, shop, and café. Scan your member card at the entrance — no tickets needed.
🥤 World of Coca-Cola
📍 121 Baker St NW · Literally next door to Aquarium · 1.5–2 hrs
✅ YES
✓Taste 100+ beverages from around the world. Some are delicious, some are genuinely strange (looking at you, Beverly from Italy). The "Vault of the Secret Formula" and pop culture exhibits are fun. About 1.5–2 hours.
✓With the college student deal: $60 for all 4 of us. At that price, it's a no-brainer add-on right next to the Aquarium. See the Tickets & Prices tab for the student hack.
✗It's a brand museum. Enjoyable, not deeply memorable. 2 hours is plenty — don't skip the Aquarium to spend more time here.
🎡 SkyView Atlanta
📍 168 Luckie St NW · Centennial Olympic Park · ~$15/person
👍 QUICK WIN
✓20-story Ferris wheel with great Atlanta skyline views. ~15–20 min ride. Right in the Fan Fest neighborhood, walkable from Centennial Park. Low effort, low cost, solid payoff.
✓Makes a natural stop on the walk back from WoCC toward the hotel. Don't go out of your way — just grab it while you're in the area.
✗Short ride. Not a destination in itself. Better at sunset but you'll likely be past this area by then after the Aquarium day.
🏢 Ponce City Market
📍 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE · ~10 min drive · BeltLine access
👍 GOOD FOR FOOD
✓Converted 1920s Sears building. Massive food hall with two floors of Atlanta's best restaurants. Rooftop Skyline Park (mini-golf, arcade, bar — extra cost) is fun. Very "local Atlanta" vs. the tourist corridor near our hotel.
✓BeltLine access right outside. Good launching point if you want to see the trail without walking 2 miles in the sun.
✗~10 min drive from the hotel — easy with your car. Better as a dinner or lunch detour than a primary activity. The rooftop Skyline Park costs extra (~$10–15/person).
🚶 Atlanta BeltLine (Eastside Trail)
📍 Access from Ponce City Market · 22-mile urban trail
⚠️ SKIP IN JUNE
✓22-mile urban trail connecting Atlanta neighborhoods with public art, food trucks, indie coffee, and great local energy. The authentic Atlanta experience. Fantastic in fall.
✗June in Atlanta = 90°F+ with high humidity and minimal shade on the Eastside Trail. After 3+ hours at the Aquarium, walking 2+ miles in direct sun is not a good time. This trail is magical in October.
✗Better move: skip the trail, hit the Ponce City Market rooftop bar instead. Same Atlanta vibe, with air conditioning.
🏛️ National Center for Civil & Human Rights
📍 100 Ivan Allen Jr Blvd NW · Pemberton Place · Next to Aquarium · ~$20/person
🤔 IF INTERESTED
✓World-class museum. The lunch counter sit-in simulator is genuinely intense — you sit at a reproduction 1960s counter with headphones that make the experience viscerally real. Covers American Civil Rights and global human rights movements.
✓Literally right next to the Aquarium in Pemberton Place — no extra travel if you're already there.
✗Heavy. 2.5–3 hours to do properly. Emotionally demanding — this is not light vacation content. May not be the right energy when you're also trying to have a fun World Cup trip. Don't rush through it.
✊ MLK Jr. National Historic Site
📍 450 Auburn Ave NE · Sweet Auburn · FREE (NPS) · ~10 min drive
🤔 BOOK FIRST
✓MLK's birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the King Center memorial and eternal flame. Free NPS admission. The guided birth home tour is powerful and worth doing if you can get a spot.
✗Birth home tours require advance timed reservations at recreation.gov — they fill up fast. Don't show up without one. Plan 2–3 hours total.
✗June 25 is already a full day. Treat this as a swap for SkyView or the Civil Rights Museum, not an addition on top of everything else.
🇺🇸 USA vs Turkey — Watch Party
📅 June 25 · Group Stage · Evening · Sports bars near stadium district
🇺🇸 FIND THE SPOT
✓USA plays in the group stage June 25. Atlanta sports bars near the stadium will be electric. American Outlaws (official USA supporters) usually organizes formal viewing events. The energy is the whole draw.
✓Perfect evening capstone after Aquarium + WoCC. Gets the whole family dialed into World Cup mode going into Fan Fest on June 26 and Match Day June 27.
✗Needs research ~June 20 to find the right venue. Good sports bars fill up early — go an hour before kickoff.
✅ Confirmed — No Research Needed

✗USA vs Turkey (June 25) is a late game — get to whichever pub you choose by 9 PM when celebrations open. These fill fast, especially for a US group stage match. No reservations needed at most pub partners, but go early.
🏟️ Centennial Olympic Park
📍 265 Park Ave W NW · FREE · Already on the daily walk to Fan Fest
✅ YOU'RE ALREADY THERE
✓Historic 1996 Olympics site. Iconic five-rings fountain (run through it — this is Atlanta in June). Good photo stop. You'll walk through here on the way to Fan Fest every day this trip.
✗Not a dedicated destination. Take the photo on your way to Fan Fest and move on.
✓Multi-campus World Cup exhibition built for WC26 Atlanta. Covers Atlanta's soccer history 1968–today, sneaker culture (co-curated with Charlotte's own Kicks & Fros), civil rights connections, and the global identity of the game. If you love soccer beyond just the matches, this is a legit cultural stop.
✓100% free. Air-conditioned library. Non-Emory visitor hours: Mon–Fri 8am–8pm · Sat 10am–8pm · Sun 11am–8pm. June 25 is Thursday — open all day. Address: 201 Dowman Drive, Atlanta GA 30322.
✗~15 min drive from hotel — easy with your car. A 1–1.5 hr experience, not a full day. Best paired with Ponce City Market (they're in the same midtown area) — knock both out in one trip.
✗Hours shown are Spring 2026 semester schedule — confirm summer hours before going. June 25 falls between semesters; hours may be reduced.
June 28 — Before Heading Home
⛰️ Stone Mountain Park
📍 1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 · ~17 mi east of downtown · 30-40 min drive
⭐ GO
✓3,200-acre park built around the world's largest exposed granite outcropping — a 1,686-foot dome you can see from miles away. The Confederate Memorial Carving on the north face is the world's largest bas-relief sculpture, larger than Mount Rushmore.
✓Summit Skyride gondola to the top for panoramic views of the Atlanta skyline. Or the Walk-Up Trail (1.3 miles, steep) for the same view on foot. Also: SkyHike treetop adventure course, Dinosaur Explore (20 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs), kayak/paddleboard rentals at the lake.
✓Best timing: June 28 morning before driving home. Attractions open 10:30 AM. Go until noon, then hit the road. Stone Mountain is east of the city, and I-85 N home runs northeast — mild detour, well-timed as a trip finale.
✓$20/vehicle parking. Walk up the mountain for free. Per-person attraction tickets available but not required.
✗In summer, the Drone & Light Show projects onto the granite face on select evenings — successor to the famous Laser Show Spectacular. Won't work for our timing (morning visit).
